Biochemistry

Rotimi Olusanya Arise is a Professor of Biochemistry. Prof. Arise is a renowned expert in Enzymology, Molecular Biology, and Drug Metabolism. His research team is dedicated to developing innovative drugs for non-communicable diseases. They employ proteomic profiling to identify therapeutic peptides and investigate the kinetics and interactions of natural and derivatized ligands with enzymes. Their work focuses on evaluating the efficacy and safety of these compounds to address chronic diseases and environmental health concerns. Professor R.O. Arise attended the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, Kwara State for his B.Sc. (Biochemistry), M.Sc. (Biochemistry) and Ph.D. in Enzymology and Biochemical Toxicology. He was appointed Assistant Lecturer to the Department of Biochemistry, College of Health Sciences, Igbinedion University, Okada-Benin City in 2001. In 2003, he joined the services of the University of Ilorin as Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry where he rose through the rank to become a Professor in October, 2019. He has served as the Head, Medical Biochemistry, College of Health Sciences, University of Ilorin (2011 to 2014) and Head, Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Ilorin (2014-2017). He was the Chairman of the University of Ilorin Quiz and Debate Committee from 2009 to 2017 with sterling achievements and performances. He was also the Chairman, University of Ilorin Time-table and Room Usages Committee (2020-2023) and Chairman, Unilorin Press Management Board (2022-2024). Prof. Arise was a former Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, University of Ilorin (2024-2026). Prof. Rotimi Arise is a Certified Molecular Biologist (New England Biolabs, USA). He is a member of Nigerian Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Nigerian Society for Experimental Biology, Federation of African Societies of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Chinese Chemical Society, Agriculture, Nutrition and Health Academy and American Peptide Society among others.
